It can be difficult to eat a truly healthy low-carb diet, but it can be done. Make wise choices and try to keep the fat content down. Choose a variety of foods including fruits and veggies and never make it an all-you-can-eat red meat feast! Search for other lower-fat protein sources. Make it low carb, not no carb.
March 2004 ~ (HealthNewsDigest.com)...As the food industry tries to cash in on the low-carbohydrate craze, many restaurant chains are adding menu items labeled “low-carb,” “Atkins-friendly,” or “protein-style.” These items are often advertised as being healthy—but are they? To answer that question, nutrition professionals with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) evaluated low-carb entrées at 10 large restaurant chains.
Their Findings:
PCRM found that most low-carb entrées are actually far from healthful. This report lists the 10 most unhealthful offerings, based on three criteria—fat content, fiber content, and calories.
