Just a quick question about fiber. If it is not absorbed by the system, how does it contribute to blood sugar? In the beginning, Atkins did not do fiber subtraction as he said only the insoluble fiber could be counted and one had no way of knowing how much of the fiber was insoluble (or is that the soluble, always get confused on that). With the popularity of Protein Power (that is where the net or Effective Carb Count came from), Atkins finally conceded and I guess the newer books tell people to subtract the fiber.
Sheryl
Those numbers yesterday were full carb count as DW does not do net carb calculations, so my net carb count would have been less.

Low Carb, Net Carb, Dual Carb, No Carb, Simple Carb, Complex Carb, no wonder peeps are confused....I AM going to eat one of those wraps and see what it does to my blood sugar if for no other reason than they look so good on TV.... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well actually yesterday I had a grand total of 31 g of carb, it would have been 22g if I had subtracted the fiber in the foods with it and carbs.
I didn't really want to believe that this was going to work but I saw my mother whose triglcerides used to be 500 and are now under 200 in just 5 months.. she also has lost 15 pounds but more importantly she's lost 3 sizes.

That definitely explains it well! Thanks! Sounds like low carbers are kidding themselves with carb/sugar control if this is the plan.
When I count carbs - I'm counting CARBS! All of them. Fiber is great, but still gotta count your carbs for sugar control.

Miss H.. the LC meant Lo Carb .. too many abbreviations in my head.
the lo carb plans want you to eat fiber so you subtract the fiber grams in a food from the carb grams to get the "net carbs"

Ahhh..... so actually those subway wraps contain more carbs than they're hoping the typical consumer will notice!!!! Thanks for the info, Anna. (It was Subway, not Lean Cuisine - IceMan's menu idea.)
Sherlynn - When you count carbs, are you counting the total carbs or the "net" carbs? Just a thought on whether that could be part of your problem with BS control.

Net carbs means the amount of carbs grams minus the amount of fiber grams.. it's the LC way to get you to eat healthier choices.

Don't know for sure about the "net" carbs. Maybe it means without your choice of condiments.
Lean Cuisine has some excellent entrees! I buy only ones that are less than 280 calories.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, that LC shrimp n' angel hair pasta sounds good..I'll be chekin' costco and sam's for summadat next weekend...I'm also looking forward to hitting Subway and trying their new low carb wraps...the ad sez 11 net carbs per san...is there a trick...why would they say "net" carbs, never heard carbs referred to that way...are there more but they're subtracting due to something else in the san..??..guess I'll ask for the nutri breakdown while I'm at it...
