No preexisting condition...just that he said it's very rare...but on occasion a patient going from out of control highly elevated blood sugars rapidly into tight control can develop sudden retinoapathy...it was only gonna be 2 in 3 months but the optometrist came to town a couple of weeks ago and I just wanted an interim check...just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they AREN'T trying to get you.... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmmmm...... but 3 exams in 3 months? Is there something there already that he's concerned about?

I'm going in for my 3rd diabetic eye exam in three months next week. My doc seemed very concerned about the possibility of developing diabetic eye disease once out of control blood sugars had been controlled.

Work with your health care team, friends and family to reach your ABC goals.

** Follow your diabetes food plan. If you do not have one, ask your health care team.

** Eat the right portions of healthy foods: fruits and vegetables (a minimum of 5 per day and at least 3 of those should be non-starchy veggies), fish, lean meats, dry beans, whole grains and low-fat milk and cheese.

** Eat foods that have less salt and fat.

** Get 30-60 minutes of activity on most days of the week. If 10-15 minutes is all you can tolerate, go for it!

** Stay at a healthy weight - by being active and eating the right amounts of healthy foods.

** Stop smoking - seek help to quit.

** Take medicines the way your doctor tells you. Ask if you need aspirin to prevent a heart attack or stroke.

** Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, red spots, and swelling, Call your health care team right away about any sores that won't heal.

** See your dentist at least twice a year. Tell the dentist you have diabetes.

** See an opthamalogist at least once a year. Tell this eye doctor you have diabetes.

** Check your blood glucose the way your doctor tells you to.
