Don't get me wrong...I am open to tempation, would welcome a big 'ol temptation just so I could test my courage, strength, determination and will power...but alas, It's Just Another Boring Day In Paradise... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I woke early this morning and was tempted to crawl back into my bed to contiue my two week break from exercise but I got up put on my clothes and went for a walk. I began to rain before I could complete the walk so I turned back and did some abs at home. Like Aggiete, my sinus are paying for the wetting. I am feeling very cold and stuffy now despite the sun and heat outside.

Good post idea!!!
Well today while walking it started to sprinkle cold rain. I almost stopped when it rained harder but then decided to continue with my 4 miles.
Wonder what it will do for my sinus infection??LOL
I'm not starving, I leave the table feeling satisfied, but I'm not consuming any excess calories either. I figure I'm well below 1200 per day...that is the only way I can lose weight because the fact that I'm now insulin dependent indicates weight GAIN, not loss. And the only chance I have of ever getting off inuslin is to lose weight. This disease is evil to the core and at every turn you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Well, blood sugar always jumps after a meal...and with the right dose of insulin the glucose will be handled the level will return to your target range in a couple of hours, which is why I check 2 hours after every meal. I'm not sure what impact the hot dogs had on the glucose reactions, as I said, I'm still ignorant in a lot areas and one of them is what to expect blood chemistry wise from different food combinations. I suspect the big load of fat and protein that the hot dogs contributed to somehow be the culprits here, but don't understand the mechanism that makes it happen. I usually have a protein selection with my meals that is much, much lower in fat than a hotdog, shrimp, tuna, turkey or chicken breast...sometimes just a couple of boiled eggs. I'm puzzling over it though and if I run across the answer or have any flashes of genius I'll post 'em right here... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Dang? IceMan, You are a large man. Looks like to me that you would starve eating as little as you do.....Not talking about the 3 dogs. One cup of soup and one hotdog is not much for a man your size?
The dogs have no carbs so why did your bs jump?
How long have you known about your condition and did you take it seriously in the beginning?

I agree...it was definately an opportunity to learn. If anything I may be a little too number conscious...I wanted the post prandial read to fit in my charts where it's supposed to be. The last 3 weenies were without bread...protein slowing down the glucose release from the bread..?? I just don't know enough yet to fully dissect the event. You're right..I should have checked before I got on the treadmill...shoulda, coulda, woulda but didn't...you can bet your sweet bippy I'll be checkin' next time there's any cause for doubt... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
With me it was more a matter of disgust than fear...I don't have enough sense to be afraid when I'm supposed to...but it disgusts me to no end whenever I do something Stupid.

That second dose of insulin was probably a mistake (don't ya just love hindsight?!) And another was not checking your sugar level before the exercise. It takes awhile for the sugar to lower and 30 minutes was probably not enough. It kicked in..... later!
If you have a BS problem that you're correcting, be sure to do more than just 1 followup glucose check. Do one every 20-30 (in the hospital we do them every 10-15) minutes until it's where it should be. Of course yours went way past where it should be! But continuous checks can help you avoid a serious low. It may have given you the opportunity to take corrective action at 60-70-80.
Kinda scary, eh? Were those extra 3 hot dogs with or without the bread? We all have our weak moments. You've been doing awesome, but you are NOT God..... so don't expect to be perfect every day! This learning experience will help you next time.

I gave into temptation today...and it promptly kicked me in the butt for my indisgression. Kerm made tomato soup and hotdogs for lunch. I had a cup of soup and a single wiener on single piece of whole wheat with mustard only. So far, so good...then I wolfed down three more wieners. An hour and a half later my blood sugar was 191 so I popped a little insulin. Half an hour after that it was still 190 so I popped a little more. I came home from work at 3 pm feeling guilty and jumped on the treadmill and pushed out a quick half mile. Felt a little funny but thought it was my accelerated heart rate and panting from the last tenth mile when I push the speed lever up and really stride out...checked blood sugar and was at 46....wandered out to the kitchen and found the left over apple pie...two forkfulls of that brought me back into compliance...sadder but wiser... http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It'll do your morale more good than it will harm for your sinus problem. Congratulations! Way to go!
