Thank you Miss Hattie...especially since I am one of the Newbies!

I do have an appointment soon for an education class on the subject but for now....can you help me out a bit with this information?

You stated, "Be sure to read labels and check out the number of sugars and carbs in the fruit (and all foods) you are eating."

I must admit, I would not know what numbers were considered high or low for the sugars and carbs.

H-E-L-P!

With some newer diabetics joining us, I thought this might be important to bring back to the top.

Some of my favorites that are better choices are fresh strawberries, grapes, watermelon, cantalope and honeydew melons. The tropical and citrus fruits are much higher in natural sugars.

Ever try washing and freezing some seedless grapes in a baggie? Then just grab a couple for a refreshing snack when neeeded.

Just a note to say fruits are also troubling for me (hypoglycemic). I learned some time ago not to eat bananas (maybe just a bite!).

We're all trying to eat a healthy diet which means eating all food groups, including fruits. But remember that fruits are very high in natural sugars and can really raise that blood sugar level!

Typically, a diabetic should eat only 1/2 of a banana at a time because of the higher carb content. I buy the very smallest bananas I can find so I can eat the whole thing without wasting it or without eating a brown one later.

The same goes for fruit juices. Beware! I find them too "costly" in sugar and carbs for me. It's a rare treat on occasion only. There's more fiber and less carbs and sugar if you eat the whole fruit rather than juice.

Be sure to read labels and check out the number of sugars and carbs in the fruit (and all foods) you are eating. Remember that basically, carbs turn into sugar in the bloodstream. So if you eat other foods high in carbs in addition to the fruit at a particular meal, that blood sugar level will soon be cruising HIGH!
