Thank you Hattie and Sherlynn for your infomation. I have had the 8 hour blood test and it showed my levels spike but drop quite quickly. I have followed my blood levels with my husbands glucometer. The highest I've ever tested was 230. I do find if I eat too many carbs or sweets (same thing I guess) that I tend to get very dizzy and sleepy to the point that I blank out.

To my knowledge those are more symptoms of low sugar. My husband has tested me at those times and I am high in the 230 range. I try to drink a lot of water at that time and move around and it seems to help.

The doctor said I was NOT diabetic. The only suggestion he gave me was to see a dietitian. I have not done that to this point. I have been trying to eat low carb and more protiens. When I eat like this I do feel better.

Recently I started back at the gym with a Trainer. Unfortunately I'll be going into the hospital for surgery in a month, but I'm trying to build up a bit before the surgery. After the doctor releases me I will use the trainer again to build me back up.

Both of my parents are diabetic. I have been tested 3 different times and always come up negative.

I appreciate your advice and will talk to my doctor some more.

Thanks again, Judy http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd definitely ask the questions Ms. Hatti suggested of your doctor.

It sounds as if you need to be on one of the lowcarbohydrate eating plans. You can go to http://lowcarb.bravepages.com and get a review of the various lowcarb plans. Then, go to your local library and see if they have the books. Of the books I have read, Protein Power does the best job of explaining the lowcarbohydrate way of eating, a good read even if you choose to follow a different plan. SugarBusters is a plan that is based on the glycemic index.

Again, follow through with getting more information from your doctor.

Hi Judy, Welcome to the Diabetes Board! I've not heard of that term exactly, but what did HE tell you about it? What advice did he give you? You might want to call his office and request additional information.

I'm wondering if he was referring to a condition sometimes known as pre-diabetes, meaning that you're sugar levels are more "borderline". Carbohydrates eventually turn into sugar in the bloodstream so if you're not tolerating them very well, maybe he's meaning that they're raising your sugar a bit, but not high enough that HE would like to call it diabetes.

Do you know what your blood sugar levels were? Did he draw a fasting blood sugar level or an HbA1C? Did he give you any other tests? Does anyone else in your family have diabetes?

My doctor has tested me for diabetes and I come up negative. He tells me I am Carbohydrate Intolerant. I've searched the web for help. I haven't found anything that helps me.

I know I am sensitive to Carbs and crave them. I'm not sure how to proceed and am willing to listen to any advice that might be offered to me.

Has anyone heard of this condition?

Thanks...Judy http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
