Hmmm...I just noticed something funny.
When I use IE to view Dietwatch, the Topic field is narrow, and the long topics go to 2 or 3 lines. But when I view it on Mozilla (which is what I usually use), the long topics remain as one line, and the Topic field is as wide as the longest line.

Me too - I use IE (not for much longer!) at home and Mozilla at work.

This page doesn't fit on my screen (at 1024x768 res).

Of course I have a life...

I..
- do math puzzles for fun
- dream in code all too frequently (not XSL tho'!)
- have on occasion memorized scrabble word lists
- obsess over crossword puzzles
- can't resist a stupid puzzle like what's behind the funky field widths

Adventuress, I also took a peek at the source code, but couldn't figger it out. Maybe I need to get a life too.

Maybe Lillian and I need to get a life together. Hey, how about it, Lillian?

Interesting,

The limit is probably defined by the width settings of the other fields.

I expect we'd see a few more characters if the "rating" on the long post was blank (its field width is wider than default because of the single '5 checks' entry).

Not unlike using the "automatic" field with settings in spreadsheets. They've "pinned" the overall table width and every field gets a width set to the longest string contained in the set of rows shown with one field, "Topic starter", getting any leftover width.

I had a peek at the source code out of curiousity - although I could follow a little, I don't know XSL (like I don't have other stuff to do http://boards.dietwatch.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif - I'm so easily distractable!).

i think it cut off at 85

The "Last Post" box is always two lines, except if there has been no replies, when it is just one line.

Just as a matter of purely academic interest, how long was your topic? It looks as though it was cut off after about 95 characters.

Oh, never mind. It looks like the ones that have no replies are shallow like that.
But still...whyizzat?

Hmmm...something else interesting.
The field for this thread on the main page is SHALLOWER than the others. This one and the "Small Type" thread are both narrow, and all the others are the same depth. Whyizzat?
