Do you plan your daily meals or is it hit n' miss for you?

- I plan my daily meals fo rthe most part.
On the weekend I pre-make my breakfasts for the work week (designed for two stages - small amount of food at ~ 6:30 cause I'm hungry) the remainder about 8:00 when 2 friends have arrived at work & we have brekfast together in the cafeteria.

On the weekend it's more improv - you can't plan every day. (But even then the balance is important)
DH & I make meals for the week as well, preporton, refrigerate the weeks meals & freeze any extras (separately portioned as well). - Next week we won't even have to cook or shop (except for some perishables like cheese, eggs etc)- we are several frozen home made meals ahead.

Then at the end of the day it's heat& eat - fast food the meets our nutritional needs.

How many here use the diary? I do, I do (oops that answer was to te question "who wants gum?" LOL. Any way I do use the diary - I use it to formulate recipes as well so I know the nutrient profile.

Will it be green plates or red plates for you today?
Green means go . red means stop. I have green today , but if I get a red plate I know I must stop the excessive eating that got me to the red plate.

Have you ever printed off the take out diary? I find it helpful to write down and then it is faster adding it all in.

Starting out I know I had to spend a lot of time getting the menus right for the day though. It didn't seem to work hit n' miss because I shorted myself of necessary nutrients.

The menus are so great for that too. It is time consuming I know. I just wonder how many people here actually use this diary.

My biggest problem with the diary is making the entries as the day progesses!

I agree that the diary helps you recognize nutritional components that are coming up "short" in your intake. It has also helped me in evaluating portion size, which I think is a HUGE (no pun intended!!) part of the problem for me, and I believe, our society in general. Super-sizing those fries has also supersized my thighs!!!!

Right, if you fall within the healthy ranges the diary will show green plates. It is fun to try to build a menu by yourself and see this. I actually learned quite a lot by doing that.

At first it can be time consuming using that diary especially if you do your own menus. I do not have so much a problem sticking within my caloric range as I do watching my Sat. fats and making sure I eat enough protein per day etc.

It is an excellent diary though and I really like how you can key in your own favorite foods, give them a unique name and they are always in your database. It takes a while to set this up but it really is beneficial.

I don't plan daily meals as well as I would like, but plan every minute detail of entertainment menus! This weekend, for example our oldest son and daughter-in-law are coming for the weekend to observe my husbands birthday. I have been planning breakfasts, lunches, and dinners and will start cooking tomorrow!!

I LOVE the food diary and find it really really useful when I use it regularly. Another plan for the new year.... I always do better when I see it in print! Helps keep me honest and realistic.

Green plates--I assume that means healthful choices???
